Check your orders before you pay anyone, us included. Depending on the type of move, your orders may cover shipping a vehicle, or they may pay you to drive it instead. Your installation transportation office is the authority on that, and the answer is worth a phone call. We would rather you spend nothing with us than pay for something your orders already cover.

Three to four weeks out, and earlier between May and August. That stretch is the busiest of the year for us, because the military move season, the general summer moving peak and college move-in all land on top of each other. Book in that window and you get better prices and more choices.

So we meet at a commercial lot, a wide street or a shopping center right outside. Tell us the installation when you book and the spot gets picked in advance.

Tell us and we work with it. Cancel any time before we assign a carrier and your deposit comes back to you. Once we assign one and send you the driver's details, that money is spoken for. It is not gone, though. You can push the move back and use it on a later shipment, which is exactly what a changed report date needs.

Yes. Carrier Cargo Insurance covers the vehicle for the whole trip and it sits with the carrier hauling it. The certificate exists as soon as your order is matched to a truck. Ask and it is in your inbox the same day, which is useful if anyone at your next duty station wants to see it.

Usually yes, within reason. Most drivers will take a few things as a courtesy. Keep it under about 100 pounds, pack it neatly, and keep it out of sight from outside the car. Think a few boxes in the trunk rather than a carload. The one thing to know is that you are paying to move the vehicle, so the carrier's insurance covers the car itself. Keep anything you would hate to lose with you.

Open, for a daily driver, and that covers most moves. Plan on about 80 percent more than open for enclosed. A $1,000 open move is roughly $1,800 enclosed. That is money well spent on a classic, an exotic, fresh paint or a car too low to clear a ramp.

Distance sets most of it. After that, the lane you are on, what you drive and when you go. Bases sit on major corridors more often than not, which usually works in your favor. Yes, and on orders it is the normal case rather than the exception. A spouse, a parent, a neighbor or a friend can stand in at either end. Put their name and number on the booking, make sure they can get to the car, and brief them on the ten-minute walk-around. That is all it takes.

A deposit is due when you book and the balance is paid to the driver at delivery, usually by cashier's check, money order or cash. You can also put the whole amount on a credit card at booking, which settles it before you leave.

Yes, as long as it rolls, brakes and steers, and the trailer carries a winch. There is no flat fee for it. Plan on $200 or more above the running rate, and a quick call so we price it properly.

Collect a handful of quotes and look at where they land. When most agree and one is half the rest, that one is the problem, not the bargain. Call and ask them to confirm the rate in writing. If they will, run their name through a search alongside bait and switch and read what turns up. Verify the USDOT and MC numbers, and read what happens to your deposit if you cancel. On orders that last part matters more than usual.

You get GPS tracking when the carrier and truck support it, the driver's phone number for a call or text along the way, and email updates from us. We put it that plainly because no one booking your shipment controls whether a given truck carries a tracking system.
