The cost to ship a car from Texas to Nevada is typically $900 to $1,600 on an open trailer, and takes between two to six days in transit time. The two cities set the number. El Paso to Las Vegas is 720 miles. Dallas to Reno is 1,730. Everything else falls in between.
Smart Auto Move provides nationwide car shipping throughout the lower 48 states, backed by four strategically located staffed offices, six additional service areas, and a trusted carrier network of more than 16,000 transport professionals nationwide. Our extensive network allows us to serve customers across the continental U.S. with reliable vehicle transport from coast to coast.
Service is not currently available in Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.
How much does Texas to Nevada car shipping cost?
Prices below cover a running mid-size car on an open trailer, reviewed September 2026. Las Vegas and Henderson share one figure. Reno prices on its own, because it sits 450 miles further north.
| City pair | Distance | Days on the road | Open transport |
|---|---|---|---|
| El Paso to Las Vegas SHORTEST | About 720 miles | 2 to 3 days | $900 to $1,050 |
| Dallas or Fort Worth to Las Vegas | About 1,230 miles | 3 to 4 days | $1,050 to $1,250 |
| San Antonio to Las Vegas | About 1,230 miles | 3 to 4 days | $1,050 to $1,250 |
| Austin to Las Vegas | About 1,240 miles | 3 to 4 days | $1,050 to $1,250 |
| Houston to Las Vegas | About 1,480 miles | 4 to 5 days | $1,150 to $1,350 |
| Dallas or Houston to Reno LONGEST | About 1,730 miles | 5 to 6 days | $1,350 to $1,600 |
| Henderson instead of Las Vegas SAME PRICE | Add about 15 miles | Same | No change |
| Any route of 500 to 1,500 miles NATIONAL BAND | 500 to 1,500 miles | 2 to 5 days | $900 to $1,600 |
These are estimates, not fixed prices. Diesel is the biggest single cost in moving a car, and its price shifts, so these figures get reviewed with the market. Road days are counted from the end of your pickup window. Enclosed costs about 80 percent more than open. A car that does not run rides on a winch truck for $200 or more extra. See how our national bands work.
Las Vegas or Reno changes more than Houston or Dallas does
On most lanes the starting city moves the price most. Here it is the finishing city. Las Vegas and Reno are 450 miles apart, in different corners of the state, reached on different roads.
Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Summerlin all sit in one valley and share one price. Southbound freight into the valley is heavy all year, so trucks are easy to place and the schedule holds well.
Reno, Sparks and Carson City add roughly 450 miles and another day or two. Carrier supply is thinner up there than in the valley, so a flexible pickup window is worth more on a Reno booking than on a Las Vegas one.
- Henderson costs the same as Las Vegas. It is fifteen miles away on the same truck.
- El Paso is by far the shortest Texas start, and it prices accordingly.
- Three or four possible pickup days beat one fixed morning on every row in the table.
Texas to Nevada Car Shipping Questions
The questions we get asked most on this route, answered with its own numbers rather than national averages.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Texas to Nevada?
The cost to ship a car from Texas to Nevada is typically $900 to $1,600 on an open trailer, and takes between two to six days in transit time. The pair decides it: El Paso to Las Vegas is $900 to $1,050 over about 720 miles, and Dallas to Reno is $1,350 to $1,600 over about 1,730 miles.
How long does Texas to Nevada car shipping take?
Two to six days on the road. El Paso to Las Vegas is two to three days. Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin or San Antonio to Las Vegas is three to four. Houston to Las Vegas is four to five. Reno adds another day or two.
Why does Reno cost more than Las Vegas?
Because it is 450 miles further and in a different corner of the state. Reno also draws on a thinner pool of trucks than the Las Vegas valley, so a flexible pickup window is worth more on a Reno booking.
Does Henderson cost more than Las Vegas?
No. Henderson is fifteen miles from the Strip and rides the same truck, so it shares the Las Vegas figure. Boulder City, North Las Vegas and Summerlin do too.
Which Texas city ships cheapest to Nevada?
El Paso, by a wide margin. It is already 600 miles west of the other metros and sits on I-10, which puts it about half the distance of a Houston start.
Is the trip back from Nevada the same price?
Yes, row for row. A car going out to Las Vegas for a season and coming home later prices the same in each direction.
What moves my quote inside a row?
Size comes first. Sedans and small crossovers price low in the row, while full-size pickups, lifted trucks and three-row SUVs price high. After that it is your date flexibility and how easy the address is to reach.
How do I get the lower number in a row?
Offer three or four possible pickup days and ship a standard running car. Flexible dates place you on a truck already heading west, which is the single biggest saving on this lane.
What route does the truck run?
Two corridors. The southern one is I-10 through San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson and Phoenix, then US-93 north over the Hoover Dam bypass. The northern one is I-20 and I-40 through Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff and Kingman, then US-93 south.
Does weather affect this route?
Very little. Both corridors stay open all year. Flagstaff on the northern line is the one modest climb and can see winter snow, which clears quickly.
How does a Reno delivery route differ?
It carries on north from the Las Vegas corridor, usually by way of I-15 and US-95, or across on I-80. That extra leg is the day or two of difference you see in the table.
Will the truck reach my door in Las Vegas?
In most of the valley, yes. Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Spring Valley, Enterprise and Summerlin are laid out wide, which suits a full carrier.
What about gated communities?
Those meet at the gate or a lot close by. Sun City Anthem, MacDonald Highlands, Lake Las Vegas and similar guarded developments limit commercial vehicles, so tell us at booking and the driver plans for it.
Can you deliver in Reno and Carson City?
Yes, and both are easy ground for a trailer. The hillside streets above Reno are the only spots that sometimes call for a flat meeting point a few minutes away.
Will a trailer fit my Texas street?
In the suburbs, almost always. Downtown is tighter, so loading moves to a wider street or a lot close by. Name the suburb rather than the metro and the driver plans the day around it.
How is the Texas end staffed?
Houston and McKinney are Smart Auto Move service areas, so pickups there are arranged through the national line on 888-709-9078. The Houston car shipping page covers that end in more detail.
Open or enclosed to Nevada?
Open covers nearly every car on this route, and the table is built on it. Enclosed is the pick for a classic, an exotic, fresh paint or a low front end, adding about 80 percent, so a $1,200 open move comes to roughly $2,160 enclosed.
Is the car insured on the road?
Yes. The carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance covers it from the Texas pickup through the Nevada delivery, and the certificate comes to you once your truck is assigned.
Can I leave belongings in the car?
Usually yes, within reason. Most drivers will take a few things as a courtesy. Keep it under about 100 pounds, pack it neatly, and keep it out of sight from outside the car. Think a few boxes in the trunk rather than a carload. The one thing to know is that you are paying to move the vehicle, so the carrier's insurance covers the car itself. Keep anything you would hate to lose with you.
How should the car be ready?
Wash it, photograph each side and the odometer, and leave roughly a quarter tank of fuel. Pull any toll tag, roof box or bike rack, and let the driver know about an alarm or a starting trick.
Does someone need to be there?
Someone does, at pickup and delivery, to release the car and sign off on its condition. Any adult you name can stand in, so send us their number when you book.
How long do I have to register in Nevada?
Thirty days. New residents get a Nevada driver license and vehicle registration inside that window, according to the state DMV.
What does Nevada registration take?
Your Texas title and registration, a VIN inspection because the car comes from out of state, and insurance from a Nevada-licensed company. That is the whole list.
Do I need an emission test?
In the urban parts of Clark County, which covers Las Vegas and Henderson, and Washoe County, which covers Reno and Sparks, many cars do: gasoline vehicles from 1968 on, and diesels rated up to 14,000 pounds. New vehicles are exempt for their first three registrations, new hybrids for five model years, and electric cars entirely.
Are Nevada registration costs different from Texas?
They include a governmental services tax based on the vehicle's value, so a newer car costs a little more to plate. Nevada has no state income tax, which is part of why this lane runs busy in both directions.
Is there a stop at a yard in between?
None. The car loads at your Texas address and stays on that trailer until it reaches Nevada. One truck the whole way, and fewer hands on your vehicle.
How much notice do you need?
Two to three weeks for a Las Vegas delivery. Make it three for Reno, where the truck pool is smaller. Expedited tightens the pickup window to three days when a date is fixed.
How does payment work?
A deposit at booking, then the balance to the driver on delivery by cashier's check, money order or cash. One payment by card at booking works too.
What if my dates change?
Cancel any time before we assign a carrier and your deposit comes back to you. Once we assign one and send you the driver's details, that money is spoken for. It is not gone, though. You can push the move back and use it on a later shipment.
Can you take a car that will not start?
Yes. A winch truck loads it, which adds $200 or more to the running price. Say so when you request the quote and the right equipment comes out.
Can I follow the truck?
Yes. You get the driver's number, our email updates track the run, and GPS tracking is there when the carrier's equipment offers it.
What route does Texas to Nevada auto transport take?
Two corridors do the work, and the driver picks by where the load starts and what else is on the trailer.
I-10 west through San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson and Phoenix, then north on US-93 over the Hoover Dam bypass into the Las Vegas valley. Houston and San Antonio loads usually go this way.
I-20 and I-40 west through Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff and Kingman, then south on US-93. Dallas and Fort Worth loads often take this one, and it is the natural line for anything continuing to Reno by way of I-15 and US-95.
Both roads stay open all year. There is one modest climb at Flagstaff on the northern line, which can see snow in the winter and clears quickly. Nothing on this route needs a seasonal plan the way a mountain lane does.
Where Texas to Nevada car shipping collects
We pick up across the Texas metros: Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Pearland, Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Arlington, Irving, Austin, Round Rock, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Waco, College Station, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa and El Paso.
Texas suburbs are good ground for a nine-car trailer, with the width and the turning room a full rig needs, so the truck normally pulls up at the address. Downtown Houston, Dallas and Austin run tighter, so the driver sets a broader street or a retail lot minutes away, and the handover takes about ten minutes.
Houston and McKinney are Smart Auto Move service areas, so a pickup there is arranged on the national line, 888-709-9078. The Houston car shipping page goes further into that end, and the Texas car shipping page holds the statewide pricing.
Delivery across Nevada
Nevada is straightforward to deliver into. The Las Vegas valley is a wide modern grid off I-15 and the 215, and Reno and Sparks are laid out much the same way off I-80.
Most of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Green Valley, Spring Valley, Enterprise, Reno, Sparks and Carson City. Room to turn and room to unload.
Guarded communities such as Sun City Anthem, MacDonald Highlands and Lake Las Vegas, plus the hillside streets climbing toward Black Mountain or up into the Reno foothills. A gate or a flat lot minutes away does the job.
Cities and communities we deliver to include Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Summerlin, Spring Valley, Enterprise, Paradise, Mesquite, Pahrump, Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Fernley, Elko and Winnemucca. Our Henderson and Reno pages cover those two ends in more detail.
Registering your car in Nevada
Nevada keeps this short. New residents have 30 days to get a Nevada driver license and register the vehicle, and the list of what to bring is a short one.
- Take your Texas title and registration. A car from out of state also gets a VIN inspection, done by the DMV or a Nevada dealer.
- Line up insurance from a Nevada-licensed company before you register.
- Vehicles based in the urban parts of Clark County, which covers Las Vegas and Henderson, or Washoe County, which covers Reno and Sparks, need an emission test if they are 1968 or newer and gasoline powered, or a diesel rated up to 14,000 pounds.
- A new vehicle is exempt for its first three registrations, a new hybrid for its first five model years, and electric cars are exempt, per the Nevada Emission Control Program.
Registration fees include a governmental services tax tied to what the vehicle is worth, so a newer car costs a little more to plate. Nevada has no state income tax, which is one reason plenty of Texans make this move and plenty make it back.
A Texas car arriving in the Mojave or the high desert
Southern Nevada runs hot and dry
Gulf Coast humidity is one thing and Mojave dry heat is another. Check the coolant and the battery in the first weeks, and keep the washer fluid topped up.
Northern Nevada gets real winters
Reno sits at 4,500 feet and sees snow. If the car has lived in Houston all its life, tires and a battery check are the first two jobs.
Sun is the constant
Both ends of the state are hard on paint, dashboards and trim. A windshield shade and a covered spot go further here than almost anywhere.

Open, enclosed or expedited to Nevada
An open trailer carries nearly every car on this route and it is what every price here reflects. An enclosed trailer suits a classic, a collector car, an exotic or fresh paint, and it shields the finish from desert grit and sun. Budget about 80 percent more than the open price.
Expedited narrows the pickup window to three days when a date will not move, and it earns its keep on a Reno booking more than anywhere else on this lane. Our open and enclosed guide goes through both trailer types.
A car that will not start is still welcome. A winch handles the loading, and that adds $200 or more to the running price. Mention it at quote time so the right truck is assigned.
The carrier behind your Texas to Nevada shipment
One carrier from our vetted network of over 16,000 handles the whole run. Authority in force with the FMCSA and insurance on file is where a carrier begins with us. Then comes the equipment, the miles that driver already runs in the Southwest, and how their recent deliveries went.
That carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance covers the car from the Texas pickup through the Nevada delivery, with the certificate emailed to you. Our own record is open to anyone at USDOT 2887232, MC 969368 on SAFER.
