| Any route over 2,500 miles NATIONAL BAND | Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle | Over 2,500 miles | 7 to 10 days | $1,600 to $2,500 |
Read these as estimates rather than fixed prices. Fuel is the single largest cost in hauling a car and it tracks the market, so the rows get reviewed against it. Road days start when your pickup window closes. A mid-size SUV adds about $150 and a full-size pickup or three-row SUV about $300. Enclosed adds roughly 80 percent. A car that will not start needs a winch truck, which adds $200 or more. See how our national bands work.
Where these figures come from. The Bronx comparison row is measured from real dispatch history on our Bronx page, and the inbound Florida row comes from our Long Island page. The short and mid-range rows follow the curve we publish on our Springfield, Massachusetts page, stepped for Allentown's shorter distances. The long runs are cross-checked against the measured Bronx and Long Island figures, with the New York premium taken out. Nothing here contradicts a figure we publish elsewhere.
Notice that Seattle prices below Los Angeles despite being about 90 miles further. That is not a mistake. Past about 2,500 miles the destination's own market depth sets the rate rather than the odometer. It shows up the same way on our New York pages.
Bethlehem, Easton, Whitehall, Emmaus, Macungie, Catasauqua, Nazareth and Quakertown all price with Allentown. So do Reading and Stroudsburg. Scranton and Wilkes-Barre sit inside the Pittsburgh row.
Ninety miles from Manhattan, and priced well below it
This is the whole argument for shipping out of Allentown. It is worth two minutes, because it is worth real money.
The New York metro is one of the most expensive places in the country to ship a car out of. That is well documented in our own dispatch history. Allentown sits about 90 miles west of it, outside the metro pricing. But it is on the same truck route. So you get the supply without the premium.
Allentown to Chicago is about 760 miles from $975. The Bronx to Chicago is about 790 miles from $1,050, and that figure is measured from real loads. Thirty miles apart in distance, about $75 apart in price. Allentown is the cheaper end.
Allentown to Los Angeles is about 2,660 miles at $1,800 to $2,100. The Bronx to Los Angeles is about 2,790 miles at $1,900 to $2,300. About $100 at the floor and $200 at the ceiling. The longer the trip, the more your origin market matters.
The reason Allentown keeps the truck supply is Interstate 78. It runs 146 miles from Interstate 81 in Union Township, Pennsylvania to Canal Street in New York City. It finishes at the Holland Tunnel entrance to Lower Manhattan. Its six-lane section runs right past Allentown to the south. That makes the city a stop on the main truck route between the New York and New Jersey ports and the rest of the country.
What to do with this. If you live anywhere in the Lehigh Valley, quote from your own address. Do not assume you pay New York prices. And if you are shipping a car to the New York area, taking delivery in Allentown and driving the last 90 miles is worth pricing both ways.
Allentown Car Shipping Questions
The questions Lehigh Valley customers really ask, answered with this city's own numbers.
How much does it cost to ship a car to or from Allentown?
The cost to ship a car to or from Allentown, Pennsylvania is typically $450 to $2,150 on an open trailer, and takes between 1 to 10 days in transit time. Philadelphia starts at $450 to $600 over about 60 miles. The Bay Area reaches $1,850 to $2,150 over about 2,830. Every row in the table on this page is a real destination priced from Allentown.
Is it cheaper to ship from Allentown than from New York City?
Yes, and by a useful amount. Allentown is only about 90 miles from Manhattan, but it sits outside the New York metro pricing. Our own published figures show it. Allentown to Chicago is about 760 miles from $975. The Bronx to Chicago is about 790 miles from $1,050, and that one is measured from real dispatch history. Thirty miles apart in distance, about $75 apart in price. Allentown is the cheaper end.
Why does Allentown price below New York?
Because leaving New York is expensive, and Allentown is not New York. The New York metro is one of the most expensive places in the country to ship a car out of, and the gap holds on long runs. Allentown sits just outside it, on Interstate 78. That is the main truck route between the New York and New Jersey ports and the interior. So you get metro-level truck supply without metro-level pricing.
Does that hold on long runs too?
It does, and the gap widens. Allentown to Los Angeles is about 2,660 miles at $1,800 to $2,100. The Bronx to Los Angeles is about 2,790 miles at $1,900 to $2,300. About $100 to $200 apart at both ends of the range, on a trip only 130 miles shorter. The further the run, the more the origin market matters.
What is the cheapest route out of Allentown?
Philadelphia, at $450 to $600 over about 60 miles in a single day. After that it is Newark or Iselin at $450 to $625 and New York City at $450 to $650. Allentown is close to a remarkable number of big cities, which is the real advantage of shipping from here.
Why does Seattle cost less than Los Angeles from Allentown?
Because Seattle is the easier delivery market of the two, even though it is further. Allentown to Seattle is about 2,750 miles at $1,750 to $1,950. Allentown to Los Angeles is about 2,660 miles at $1,800 to $2,100. Past about 2,500 miles the destination's own market depth sets the rate rather than the odometer. Southern California is in heavy demand year round.
What actually decides my Allentown price?
Four things. How far the car is going, which is why the table is sorted by distance. What the vehicle is: a mid-size SUV adds about $150, a full-size pickup or three-row SUV about $300. Whether you choose open or enclosed. And the season, because summer is the busiest stretch. Your quote is one price for the whole trip, worked out for its distance and the route it takes.
How much more is a truck or an SUV?
A mid-size SUV or crossover adds about $150 to the figure in the table. A full-size pickup or a three-row SUV adds about $300. Those are the steps we publish across our long-haul pages and they hold here too. It comes down to deck space and weight, nothing else.
Are the prices on this page fixed?
They are careful estimates, reviewed against the market. Fuel is the largest single cost in hauling a car, and it moves. So we review these rows against it rather than letting them go stale. Once you accept a quote, the Smart Price Promise holds it. That holds as long as the vehicle, the route, the condition and the shipping details stay the same.
What is included in the price?
Door to door pickup and delivery, loading and unloading, the road miles, and Carrier Cargo Insurance for the whole trip. There is no terminal fee. There is no fuel surcharge added later. Enclosed transport and a vehicle that will not start are priced up front, not at the curb.
How much more is enclosed transport?
Enclosed costs about 80 percent more than open on the same route. It is the right call for a classic, a collector car, an exotic, a fresh restoration or anything low to the ground. Road salt through a Pennsylvania winter is the other reason people choose it here.
What does it cost to ship a car that will not start?
A vehicle that will not start needs a winch truck. That adds $200 or more, depending on what the driver has to do to get it aboard. There is no flat fee. A car that rolls and steers is a very different job from one that does neither. Tell us the true condition when you request a quote and the figure is in your price from the start.
How can I get a lower price on my Allentown shipment?
Give us the widest pickup window you can live with. That is the single best lever you have. A driver filling the last space on a trailer will often take a nearby car rather than travel further for a better paying one. Interstate 78 carries a lot of those trucks, so there are plenty to catch. Also ask about the student, military and senior discounts.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes. Student, military and senior discounts apply in either direction. Ask before your price is confirmed and the discount is built into the figure you agree to, rather than adjusted afterwards.
How long does Allentown car shipping take?
Between 1 and 10 days on the road, depending on distance. Philadelphia, Newark and New York are a single day. Baltimore, Washington, Pittsburgh, Boston, Richmond, Norfolk and Cleveland are 1 to 2. Charlotte, Chicago and Atlanta are 2 to 3. Jacksonville and Orlando are 3 to 4. Miami is 4 to 5. Dallas and Houston are 4 to 6, Denver 5 to 6, Phoenix 6 to 8, and the West Coast 7 to 10.
When does the transit clock start?
When your car is loaded, not when you book. The pickup window comes first and the road days follow it. That is why the two numbers are quoted separately on every route in the table. Plan your dates around both.
How soon can a carrier pick up in Allentown?
The standard pickup window is 6 days. Expedited narrows it to 3 days, which is 72 hours. The Lehigh Valley is one of the busiest freight corridors on the East Coast. So there is usually a truck within reach, and we often place a car near the early end of that window.
Can I get a faster pickup?
Yes. Expedited scheduling narrows the pickup window from 6 days to 3, which is 72 hours. The road days stay the same. Federal driving-hour limits apply to every driver on the interstate, and no service moves them. What you are buying is a faster start, not a faster truck.
Why cannot the driver just drive straight through?
Federal rules cap how long a driver may be behind the wheel each day. There are also eight or nine other cars on the trailer, each with its own pickup and delivery point. The route is built around all of them. That is why a 2,660-mile run to Los Angeles is 7 to 10 days rather than four.
Does winter affect shipping from Allentown?
It can add a day between January and March, and it is easy to plan for. Lehigh Valley winters bring snow and salted roads. The Pocono and Appalachian climbs west of the city are the parts that slow a truck. Build one extra day into your plan, and give us the widest pickup window you can. Consider enclosed transport if the car is worth keeping off the salt.
What is the busiest time of year?
May through August, driven by family moves and college dates. Capacity tightens and the best pickup dates go first. Spring and fall give you the widest choice, so if your dates are flexible aim for March to April or late September to November.
Why does Allentown have such good truck coverage?
Because of Interstate 78. It runs 146 miles from Interstate 81 in Union Township, Pennsylvania to Canal Street in New York City. It ends at the Holland Tunnel entrance to Lower Manhattan. Its six-lane section bypasses Allentown to the south. That makes Allentown a stop on the main truck route between the New York and New Jersey ports and the interior of the country.
Which roads does my car actually take?
It depends on the direction, and Allentown gives a driver several good choices. Interstate 78 east for New York and northern New Jersey. Interstate 78 west to Interstate 81 for Harrisburg, the Shenandoah Valley and the South. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension for Scranton and the Poconos. US 22 and Interstate 476 run south toward Philadelphia and Interstate 95.
Is Allentown really only 90 miles from Manhattan?
About that, yes, and it is the single most useful fact on this page. Allentown is the third-most populous city in Pennsylvania, with 125,845 people at the 2020 census. The Lehigh Valley metro holds about 861,899. Allentown is close enough to New York to share its truck supply, and far enough out to escape its pricing.
Do you serve Bethlehem and Easton too?
Yes, and they price with Allentown. Bethlehem, Easton, Whitehall, Emmaus, Macungie, Catasauqua, Nazareth and Quakertown are all the same job to us. So are Reading and Stroudsburg. One call covers the whole valley.
Do you ship to and from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh?
Yes. Philadelphia is about 60 miles from Allentown, and the cheapest row on this page. Pittsburgh is about 300 miles west across the state at $550 to $750. Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg and Reading all sit between, and price inside those two rows.
Can a car carrier reach my street in Allentown?
Usually yes. A full-size carrier is about 75 feet long and needs room to turn. The suburbs and the newer developments around Allentown almost all have the space. On the older grid streets in central Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, we arrange a meet-point a few minutes away. It costs nothing extra.
Which Allentown streets need a meet-point most often?
The tight row-house blocks in central Allentown and South Side Bethlehem, where streets are narrow and cars park on both sides. Also the older parts of Easton near the river. We know these blocks well. The meet-point is usually settled at booking rather than worked out on the day.
What is a meet-point, and does it cost extra?
It is a nearby spot with room for the truck, and it costs nothing extra. Normally a wide road or a retail lot a few minutes from your address. We use one when a street cannot take a 75-foot carrier safely. The paperwork and the inspection are exactly the same there, and the car is loaded in the open where you can see it.
Can you pick up at Lehigh Valley International Airport?
We meet you near it rather than inside it. Airport property is controlled and there is nowhere for a carrier to work. A meet-point close by works well, and plenty of our Lehigh Valley customers fly one way and meet the car at the other end.
Can you deliver to an apartment complex?
Yes, and we hand the car over at street level or in an open part of the lot. Parking decks have clearances a carrier cannot enter. Tell us the complex at booking and the driver plans the handover spot, which often means the leasing-office lot.
Does Pennsylvania require a vehicle inspection?
Yes, and it is worth booking soon after your car arrives. Pennsylvania runs a safety inspection with a sticker on the windshield, and it applies statewide. It is a straightforward check at an approved station. Plan on it rather than leaving it to chance.
Does my car need an emissions test in Allentown?
It depends on your county, so it is worth a two-minute check. Pennsylvania runs an emissions inspection program that covers some parts of the state and not others. It is grouped into regions rather than one statewide rule, so your county decides it. The PennDOT emissions page and Drive Clean PA will tell you for your exact address before your car arrives.
How do I register a car brought into Pennsylvania?
Through PennDOT, and the practical advice is to start it before your car lands rather than after. Check the current requirements, fees and timing on the PennDOT site so the paperwork is ready. Pennsylvania also wants proof of insurance in force, so keep your policy current while the car is on a trailer.
Will my out-of-state car pass a Pennsylvania inspection?
Usually with no trouble at all. The safety inspection is a condition check rather than an emissions-standard comparison. A car that was roadworthy where it came from is normally roadworthy here. Worn tires and wipers are the two things most often flagged, and both are cheap to sort before you go in.
Can you ship a car I bought out of state to Allentown?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do into the Lehigh Valley. We collect from a dealer, an auction, a private seller or a storage lot and deliver to your Allentown address. Have the seller ready with the keys and the paperwork. Tell us if the car has been sitting long enough that it may not start, so the right truck is assigned.
Can you ship a car to a college near Allentown?
Yes. Lehigh University and Moravian in Bethlehem, Lafayette in Easton, Muhlenberg and Cedar Crest in Allentown. Also Kutztown, DeSales and Penn State's Lehigh Valley campus. Late August and mid-May are the tightest weeks. Book two to three weeks ahead and the student discount applies.
Is my vehicle insured while it is being shipped?
Yes. Your car travels under the assigned carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance. Cover starts the moment it is loaded and ends when it is handed back to you. It goes from your address straight onto the trailer. No terminal, no holding lot, no gap in between. You can check any carrier's active authority and insurance on the FMCSA SAFER system before your car is loaded, and we will tell you who the carrier is.
Is my car stored anywhere along the way?
No. It stays on the same carrier from pickup to delivery and is covered the whole way. There is no terminal and no holding lot in the middle. One trailer, one driver, and a handover at each end.
Do I have to be there for pickup and delivery?
Someone does, at both ends. The driver walks the car with you and records its condition on the Bill of Lading, and you both sign. It takes a few minutes, and it is what protects you. Better to be there than to leave the keys.
Can someone else release or receive the car?
Yes. Any adult you nominate can hand the car over or take delivery, as long as we have their name and number at booking. A family member, a neighbor, a friend or a building manager all work fine. Plenty of our shipments are arranged by someone who is not standing next to the car.
Can I leave personal items in the car?
Usually yes, within reason. Keep it light and keep it low. Use the trunk or the footwells rather than the seats or the parcel shelf, so the driver can see out and the weight stays sensible. Take anything valuable or irreplaceable with you. Tell us at booking if you are packing more than a suitcase or two, and the assigned carrier will be expecting it.
Should I take my E-ZPass off the windshield?
Yes, and it matters on this route. The Pennsylvania Turnpike, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Hudson River crossings are all tolled. Your transponder will read while the car rides on a trailer. Take it off, or seal it in its shielded bag, before the driver arrives.
How much fuel should be in the tank?
About a quarter of a tank is ideal. That is enough to load, unload and drive away at the far end. It also avoids weight the trailer does not need. A full tank on nine cars adds up fast.
Should I wash the car before pickup?
It helps. A clean car makes the condition report at pickup much easier to read, which makes the inspection at delivery easier too. Photograph it in daylight from all four corners once it is clean, and you have your own record alongside the Bill of Lading.
What is a Bill of Lading?
It is the condition report for your car, and the most useful piece of paper in the whole trip. The driver records the car's condition at pickup and you both sign. At delivery you compare the car against it before signing again. Keep your copy until the delivery is complete and you are satisfied.
What happens if something is damaged in transit?
Note it on the Bill of Lading at delivery, before you sign, and photograph it. That is the record that matters. Then call us. We handle the claim with the carrier from there rather than leaving it with you. It is rare, and it is why the two inspections are worth the few minutes they take.
Can you ship two cars at once?
Yes, and it is often the better deal. Both cars go on the same carrier and arrive together, which suits a household move. Tell us both vehicles when you request the quote and the price covers the pair.
Do you ship SUVs, pickups and vans?
Yes, every week. A mid-size SUV or crossover adds about $150 to the table figure. A full-size pickup or a three-row SUV adds about $300. Minivans and work vans ship on open trailers too. Oversized lifted trucks and dual-rear-wheel pickups get their own quote.
Can you ship a lowered or modified car?
Yes, and tell us about it when you book. Low ground clearance, a front splitter, a wide body or oversized wheels all change which trailer and ramps the job needs. Given the details up front, we assign a carrier equipped for it. For anything very low that is usually enclosed transport with a lift gate.
Do you ship classic cars from the Lehigh Valley?
Yes, and enclosed transport is what we recommend for one. It costs about 80 percent above the open price. It keeps the car away from weather and road debris for the entire trip. In a Pennsylvania winter it also keeps the car off salted roads, which is the reason most owners here choose it.
Can you ship an electric vehicle?
Yes. An EV ships like any other car and the battery does not need charging on the way. Tell us the model when you book, because some EVs are heavier than a comparable gas car and that affects where the driver places it on the deck. Leave it at a moderate state of charge rather than full.
Do you handle dealer and auction shipments?
Yes, on their own terms and timelines. We move vehicles for dealers and collect from auction lots across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Tell us the lot, the gate hours and the release paperwork at booking and the pickup goes smoothly.
Do you handle military moves from Allentown?
Yes. Fort Indiantown Gap is about 75 miles west and the Tobyhanna Army Depot about 70 miles north. Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is about 90 miles southeast in New Jersey. Orders move cars in and out all year, and the military discount applies in either direction.
Does Smart Auto Move have an office near Allentown?
The closest is Iselin, New Jersey, about 65 miles east. It is one of our six service areas, and it covers the Lehigh Valley along with northern New Jersey. Your shipment is arranged on the national line at 888-709-9078, by the team that books this corridor every week.
Which routes on this page reach one of your offices?
Four of them. Chicago at about 760 miles, Orlando or Kissimmee at about 1,020, Los Angeles at about 2,660, and Seattle or Lakewood at about 2,750. On those routes a Smart Auto Move team handles the far end as well as the booking.
Where are your offices and service areas?
Four staffed offices: Chicago at 742 E 87th Pl, Lakewood in Washington at 5607 Boston Ave SW, Los Angeles at 5111 Harold Way Suite 301, and Kissimmee in Florida at 2095 E Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy. Plus six service areas: Iselin in New Jersey, the Bronx and Huntington Station in New York, Portsmouth in Virginia, and McKinney and Houston in Texas.
Who actually moves my car?
Smart Auto Move is a car shipping company. We arrange and manage your transport end to end. The job goes to a vetted carrier from a network of more than 16,000 transport professionals nationwide. We stay with it until the car is delivered. You will know which carrier has your car, and you can check their authority and insurance yourself before it is loaded.
How do I check that you are properly authorized?
Look us up on the FMCSA SAFER system under USDOT 2887232 and MC 969368. Both numbers are on every page of this site for exactly that reason. We are also BBB A plus accredited. We will give you the assigned carrier's USDOT number so you can check them too.
Will you call or text me after I request a quote?
No. We do not call or text quote-form leads. Your quote comes back to you, and the next move is yours. If you would rather talk it through, call 888-709-9078 and we will quote you on the phone.
Do you sell my information?
No. Information you share with Smart Auto Move for the purpose of receiving a quote is used for that purpose only. We do not sell your information. That is why the quote form on this page does not turn into a week of calls from companies you have never heard of.
Where does Smart Auto Move ship?
Smart Auto Move provides nationwide car shipping throughout the lower 48 states, backed by four strategically located staffed offices, six additional service areas, and a trusted carrier network of more than 16,000 transport professionals nationwide. Service is not currently available in Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.
How do I book an Allentown car shipment?
Start with the quote form on this page, or call 888-709-9078. We need both ZIP codes, plus the year, make and model. Then whether the car runs, your first available date, and open or enclosed. You will have a price to look at, and nothing is booked until you say so.
Allentown is closer to more of the country than people realize
Allentown is the third-most populous city in Pennsylvania, with 125,845 people at the 2020 census. The Lehigh Valley metro holds about 861,899. What matters for shipping is not the size though. It is the position.
Six big cities inside 300 miles
Philadelphia at 60, Newark at 75, New York at 90, Baltimore at 165, Washington at 185. Boston and Pittsburgh are both about 300. All of them sit in the cheapest national band of $450 to $900.
Interstate 78 east
The route to northern New Jersey and New York, ending at the Holland Tunnel. This is the corridor that gives Allentown its truck supply. The eastern rows are the quickest to fill.
Interstate 78 west to Interstate 81
The way to Harrisburg, the Shenandoah Valley, Roanoke and the whole Southeast. A driver heading south picks up Interstate 81 about 60 miles west of Allentown.
Interstate 476 and US 22 south
The Northeast Extension and US 22 link Allentown to Philadelphia and Interstate 95. That is how the Florida and Carolina rows are built.
Interstate 80 for the west
Picked up just north of the city, and the line to Cleveland, Chicago and beyond. It is why the Chicago row sits comfortably inside its band.
The Poconos and Scranton
The Northeast Extension runs up to Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, about 75 miles north. Both price inside the Pittsburgh row rather than needing one of their own.
Loading a car in the Lehigh Valley
A full-size carrier is around 75 feet long and needs room to turn. Most of the Lehigh Valley gives it that easily. Where a street does not, we sort it out at booking rather than at the curb. It costs you nothing.
The suburbs are simple
Whitehall, Emmaus, Macungie, Trexlertown, Fogelsville and Nazareth are all easy. So are the newer developments around them. Wide roads and driveway access, door to door almost every time.
Central Allentown row-house blocks
The older grid streets are narrow, with cars on both sides. A 75-foot trailer has nowhere to turn. So we arrange a meet-point a few minutes away, on a wide road or a retail lot, and the handover happens there.
South Side Bethlehem and old Easton
Same story here. We know these blocks well enough to suggest the meet-point before you ask. The paperwork and the inspection are identical wherever we load.
Apartment complexes
We hand the car over at street level, or in an open part of the lot near the leasing office. Parking decks have clearances a carrier cannot enter. Tell us the complex at booking.
Winter access
January to March brings snow and salted roads. A plowed but narrowed street is the usual complication. A wider pickup window is the easiest way around it.
Take the E-ZPass off
The Pennsylvania Turnpike, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Hudson crossings are all tolled. A transponder reads while the car rides on a trailer. Take it off, or seal it in its shielded bag.
Pennsylvania paperwork, and the one thing to check for your county
Pennsylvania asks for two checks. Both are quick, and here is how to find out which apply at your address.
Book the safety inspection
Pennsylvania runs a safety inspection with a sticker on the windshield, and it applies statewide. It is a straightforward check at an approved station. Plan on it soon after your car arrives rather than waiting to be reminded. PennDOT inspections
Emissions depends on your county
Pennsylvania's emissions program covers some parts of the state and not others. It is grouped into regions rather than one statewide rule, so your county decides it. Worth a two-minute check before your car arrives. PennDOT and Drive Clean PA will tell you for your exact address.
Registration goes through PennDOT
Check the current requirements, fees and timing on the PennDOT site, so the paperwork is ready before your car lands. Pennsylvania also wants proof of insurance in force. Keep your policy current while the car is on a trailer.
An out-of-state car usually sails through
The safety inspection is a condition check rather than an emissions-standard comparison. Worn tires and wipers are the two things most often flagged. Both are cheap to sort before you go in.
Who ships cars in and out of Allentown
New York commuters and movers
The biggest group, and the reason this page leads with the New York comparison. Some are moving out of the city to the Lehigh Valley. Others keep a car here rather than paying to keep one in Manhattan.
Relocating families
The Lehigh Valley has grown quickly. A job move in or out is the second most common reason people call us. Two cars on one trailer is usually the better deal.
Students
Lehigh University and Moravian in Bethlehem, Lafayette in Easton, Muhlenberg and Cedar Crest in Allentown, plus Kutztown and DeSales. Late August and mid-May are the tightest weeks. Student discount.
Snowbirds
Florida is 3 to 4 days away at $1,150 to $1,350. The inbound spring run is cheaper still. October to December going south, March to May coming back. Book both legs together if your dates are settled.
Online buyers
Allentown sits inside 300 miles of Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, Washington, Boston and Pittsburgh. So the shopping radius here is unusually wide, and the shipping is cheap.
Military families
Fort Indiantown Gap about 75 miles west, Tobyhanna Army Depot about 70 north, and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst about 90 southeast. Military discount.
How Allentown car shipping works
Get your price
We need both ZIP codes. Then the year, make and model, whether the car runs, your first available date, and open or enclosed. Use the form on this page, or call 888-709-9078.
Confirm the booking
Review the route, the transport type, the timing and the access at both ends. Then your price. The Smart Price Promise holds it from the moment you accept.
We assign a carrier
Your job goes to a vetted carrier, from a network of more than 16,000 transport professionals nationwide. We tell you who it is. You can check their authority and insurance yourself.
Pickup
Standard pickup window is 6 days, expedited is 3 days, which is 72 hours. The driver walks the car with you and records its condition on the Bill of Lading. Then he loads.
On the road
1 to 10 days, depending on distance. The route works within federal driving-hour limits and around the other cars on the trailer. Call any time for an update.
Delivery
The driver calls as he approaches and agrees a safe, legal handover point. Compare the car against the pickup report. Note anything before you sign, and it is yours.
Open, enclosed or expedited from Allentown
Open transport
The basis for every figure in the table and the right choice for most cars, SUVs and pickups. Best value on any route.
Enclosed transport
About 80 percent above open. The right call for a classic, a collector car, an exotic, a fresh restoration or anything low to the ground. Road salt is the extra reason people pick it here.
Expedited pickup
Narrows the pickup window from 6 days to 3, which is 72 hours. The road days stay the same, because federal driving-hour limits apply to every truck on the interstate.
Mid-size car
Accord, Camry, Malibu, 3 Series and similar. Every figure in the table is for one of these.
Mid-size SUV or crossover
RAV4, CR-V, Equinox, Highlander and similar. Add about $150 to the table figure.
Full-size pickup or three-row SUV
F-150, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban and similar. Add about $300 to the table figure.

Written by Richard Avery
President, Smart Auto Move Inc
Richard Avery founded Smart Auto Move because too many auto transport companies were treating customers badly. There was no easy way to tell an honest company from the rest. He has worked in vehicle transport for over a decade, and writes about routes, pricing and carrier coordination. The figures on this page come from the lane prices already published across this site, and from Smart Auto Move's own recent Northeast shipments. They are reviewed as the market moves.
