California to Nevada car shipping is one of the shortest interstate runs we handle, and one of the busiest. Southern California to Las Vegas is a single day on I-15, straight across the Mojave past Baker and its 134 foot thermometer, the tallest in the world. Northern California to Reno is shorter still, an I-80 climb over Donner Pass that a truck clears in a morning. Smart Auto Move moves cars to Las Vegas, Henderson, Reno, Sparks and Carson City with open, enclosed and expedited service.
How long does California to Nevada car shipping take?
One day on the road for almost every California to Nevada route. Los Angeles to Las Vegas is about 270 miles, San Diego to Las Vegas about 330, and Sacramento to Reno about 130. The Bay Area to Reno is roughly 220 miles. Only a Southern California to Reno run stretches to two days. As of September 2026, the distances and transit times for every main pair are further down this page.
California to Nevada auto transport routes and transit times
These are the pairs we move most often. Distance and transit are fixed facts you can plan around. Price on a run this short moves with capacity week to week, so the calculator gives you the live number in about two minutes rather than a figure that goes stale between visits.
| California to Nevada route | Miles | Days on the road | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sacramento to Reno | 130 | 1 | Relocations, second homes |
| Bay Area to Reno or Sparks | 220 | 1 | Job moves, tax relocations |
| Los Angeles to Las Vegas | 270 | 1 | Dealer and auction transfers |
| Orange County to Las Vegas | 270 | 1 | Second homes, snowbird runs |
| San Diego to Las Vegas | 330 | 1 | Military and family moves |
| Los Angeles to Henderson | 280 | 1 | Retirement relocations |
| Fresno to Las Vegas | 400 | 1 | Central Valley relocations |
| Los Angeles to Reno | 470 | 1–2 | Cross-state relocations |
Enclosed California to Nevada vehicle shipping runs about 80 percent above the open price. Non-running, oversized and modified vehicles are priced individually, so use the quote form for those.
Why a short run is not simply a cheap run
On a cross-country move, the price is mostly miles. On a 270 mile run it is mostly the driver's day. A truck crossing to Las Vegas gives up a whole day of schedule whether it carries one car or nine, so what sets your price is how full that trailer is and what is waiting for the driver at the Nevada end. This is why flexible dates do more for you here than on any long route, and why the live number is worth two minutes of your time.
What sets the price on California to Nevada car shipping?
- How full the trailer is. A driver filling the last spot on a Vegas run prices very differently from one starting an empty deck.
- Where in California you are. Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and the Bay Area all sit on daily carrier routes. The far north coast and the eastern Sierra do not.
- Vehicle size and weight. A three-row SUV or a lifted truck takes more deck space than a sedan.
- Running or not. A non-running car needs a truck with a winch.
- Service level. Enclosed and expedited both cost more than open.
- Season. May through August is the peak. February through April is the bargain.
- Date flexibility. The biggest lever you control, and it counts double on a short run.
Why flexible dates save you money
Trucks fill a spot at a time. When a driver has one space left, they take the car that is easiest to collect on the way rather than one they have to detour for. Give us a three or four day window instead of a single date and your car is far more likely to be that one. On the California to Nevada corridor, where a truck leaves most days, that flexibility is the difference between riding along and waiting.
Your car never sits anywhere. It goes from your address straight onto the carrier and stays covered under Carrier Cargo Insurance for the entire trip. Our Los Angeles office is where dispatchers book your transport and call you with updates, not somewhere your vehicle waits.
Open, enclosed and expedited California to Nevada vehicle shipping
Open transport
The right call for everyday cars, SUVs, minivans and pickups. It is the same kind of trailer that delivers new cars to dealerships, and it is what nine out of ten cars on this corridor use. More on open transport.
Enclosed transport
Plan on about 80 percent more than open. A hard-sided trailer holds two to six cars where an open one holds ten, so each car carries more of the cost. Worth it for a classic, an exotic, fresh paint, or a car too low to clear a ramp. More on enclosed transport.
Expedited transport
A three day pickup window instead of six, for auction deadlines, closings and relocations with a fixed start date. More on expedited transport.
Weighing the two? The open and enclosed comparison lays them out side by side. For most cars on this route, open is the right answer.
California to Nevada car shipping in three steps
Get your price
Enter your California pickup city, your Nevada delivery city, the vehicle and the first date it can go. Two minutes, no obligation.
Book and set the window
A deposit holds the booking. We check whether a full size carrier can reach both addresses or whether a nearby lot is quicker, then assign the carrier and send you the driver's details.
Load, travel, deliver
You and the driver walk the car and sign the Bill of Lading. On this corridor it usually arrives the next day, and you walk it again in Nevada before signing.
Should you ship or drive from California to Nevada?
Here is the honest answer, and it is not the one most shipping companies give. Under about 500 miles, driving usually wins on cost, and most of this corridor sits under that line. Shipping wins when you have two cars and one driver, when the car cannot make the trip, when you are flying and the car is not, or when a dealer or auction purchase needs to arrive without adding miles to the odometer. Those are the reasons most of our California to Nevada auto transport customers call, and they are good ones.
Top 5 reasons to ship your vehicle from California to Nevada instead of driving
- Two cars, one driver. A household moving to Las Vegas or Reno usually has more vehicles than people to drive them. Ship the second one and everybody travels together.
- Keep the miles off it. A dealer transfer, an auction win or a lease return arrives in the same condition it left, with the odometer where it was.
- Skip the Mojave in July. I-15 across the desert in high summer is hard on an older car, and the tow trucks out there are not cheap.
- Donner Pass in winter. The I-80 climb to Reno chains up several times a season. A carrier driver runs it weekly and knows when to go.
- Get your day back. Driving out and flying home costs a day each way plus the ticket. Handing the car over takes fifteen minutes.
Where we collect in California
The I-5 and I-15 corridors carry almost all of this traffic, so anything near them loads without trouble.
The tight spots are the ones you would guess. Hillside streets in the Hollywood Hills and Silver Lake, and the older blocks of San Francisco, were laid out long before a 75 foot car hauler existed, so those pickups usually meet at a shopping center lot a few minutes away. Suburban Orange County, the Inland Empire and the Central Valley hand over at the curb.
Where we deliver in Nevada
Nevada is two markets with 450 miles of desert between them. The south runs off I-15 into the Las Vegas valley. The north runs off I-80 into Reno and Sparks.
Nevada is one of the easier states in the country to deliver into. The Las Vegas valley is mostly wide suburban streets built after cars existed, and gated communities are the only common obstacle. Give us the gate code or the community office name at booking and the driver is not sitting outside a callbox with your car on the deck.
