The cost to ship a car in or out of Arizona is typically $450 to $2,000 on an open trailer, and takes between one to seven days in transit time. Phoenix sits at the center of it, within a day of Las Vegas and Los Angeles and within a week of anywhere in the country.

How much does car shipping cost inside Arizona?

All figures are for a running mid-size car on an open trailer, reviewed September 2026. In-state moves are short enough to finish in a day.

Arizona routeDistanceDays on the roadOpen transport
Phoenix to Tucson SHORTESTAbout 115 miles1 day$450 to $600
Phoenix to FlagstaffAbout 145 miles1 day$450 to $600
Phoenix to YumaAbout 185 miles1 to 2 days$475 to $625
Phoenix to Lake Havasu CityAbout 200 miles1 to 2 days$475 to $650
Any route under 500 miles NATIONAL BANDUnder 500 miles1 to 2 days$450 to $900

These are estimates, not fixed prices. Diesel is the biggest single cost in moving a car, and its price shifts, so these figures get reviewed with the market. Road days are counted from the end of your pickup window. Enclosed costs about 80 percent more than open. A car that does not run rides on a winch truck for $200 or more extra. See how our national bands work.

Short moves price closer to a day of a driver's work than to the length of the drive. Loading, securing and unloading take the same care over 115 miles as over 1,150, and your car takes the same slot on the trailer, which is why an in-state hop sits at the floor of the band.

Arizona to the rest of the country

Phoenix is well placed for carrier supply. The I-10, I-17, I-40 and I-8 corridors all meet in the state, so trucks pass through constantly in every direction.

RouteDistanceDays on the roadOpen transport
Phoenix to Las VegasAbout 300 miles1 to 2 days$550 to $750

Any route of 1,500 to 2,500 miles NATIONAL BAND1,500 to 2,500 miles4 to 7 days$1,250 to $2,100

Tucson adds about 115 miles to a westbound or northbound run and usually shares the Phoenix figure. The Seattle row matches what our Tacoma to Phoenix and Phoenix to Tacoma pages already publish, because the trip prices the same in both directions.

Arizona Car Shipping Questions

The questions we get asked most about shipping a car in or out of Arizona.

How much does it cost to ship a car in or out of Arizona?

The cost to ship a car in or out of Arizona is typically $450 to $2,000 on an open trailer, and takes between one to seven days in transit time. Phoenix to Tucson starts at $450 to $600 over about 115 miles, and Phoenix to Miami reaches $1,700 to $2,000 over about 2,350 miles.

How much is Phoenix to Tucson?

$450 to $600 for a running mid-size car on an open trailer, over about 115 miles, in a single day. It is the shortest lane we quote in the state.

Why does a 115-mile move cost that much?

Because the price follows the work rather than the distance. The driver still loads, secures, hauls and unloads, and your car still takes a full slot on the trailer, so short lanes sit at the floor of the band instead of at some fraction of a long-haul price.

What does Phoenix to Los Angeles cost?

$600 to $800 over about 375 miles, usually in one to two days. Las Vegas is a little closer at about 300 miles and runs $550 to $750.

How much to ship a car from Phoenix to the East Coast?

Phoenix to Chicago runs $1,400 to $1,650 over about 1,750 miles in five to six days. Phoenix to Miami is $1,700 to $2,000 over about 2,350 miles in six to seven.

Does Tucson cost more than Phoenix?

Usually not. Tucson adds about 115 miles to a westbound or northbound run and normally shares the Phoenix figure. Give us the address and we will price it exactly.

Is the trip priced the same in both directions?

Yes. Our Tacoma to Phoenix and Phoenix to Tacoma pages both publish $1,350 to $1,600, which is where the Seattle row on this page comes from.

When is the cheapest time to ship in Arizona?

Late spring and summer. Winter residents arrive through October and November and leave in March and April, and those two windows are when trucks fill fastest in each direction.

How far ahead should I book in the fall?

Three to four weeks for October and November. Two weeks covers most of the rest of the year. Expedited narrows the pickup window to three days when a date will not move.

What moves my quote inside a range?

Vehicle size leads. A sedan or small crossover sits near the floor, and a full-size pickup, a lifted truck or a three-row SUV sits near the ceiling. Season and date flexibility settle the rest.

Will the truck come to my door in the Valley?

More reliably than in most big metros. Grid streets, wide arterials and newer subdivisions all suit a full carrier, so the address itself is normally the delivery point.

What about gated or 55-plus communities?

Sun City, Sun City West, Sun Lakes and plenty of gated developments restrict commercial vehicles. The handover happens at the gate or a lot close by, set when you book.

Can you deliver in Old Town Scottsdale or downtown Tempe?

Yes, working from a lot minutes away. The turns are tight there and the parking is structured, which a carrier cannot enter. Ten minutes, no extra charge.

Do you deliver to Flagstaff and Sedona?

Yes. Those are climbing two-lane roads, and Sedona has tight switchbacks, so the driver may work from a flatter spot nearby. Tell us the address and it goes into the plan.

Do you cover Yuma and Lake Havasu City?

Yes, and both are straightforward. They sit on I-8 and the Colorado River corridor, where trucks pass through regularly.

Do you handle auction and dealer pickups?

Yes. Send the auction or dealer name, the lot or stock number, who releases the vehicle and the gate hours, and we will book a driver around them.

Open or enclosed in Arizona?

Open covers nearly every car here and it is what these prices reflect. Enclosed suits a classic, an exotic, fresh paint or a low front end, and it adds about 80 percent, so a $900 open move is roughly $1,620 enclosed.

What covers the car in transit?

The carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance, in force from pickup through to delivery. Once your truck is assigned we can email the certificate over.

Can I pack a few things inside?

Usually yes, within reason. Most drivers will take a few things as a courtesy. Keep it under about 100 pounds, pack it neatly, and keep it out of sight from outside the car. Think a few boxes in the trunk rather than a carload. The one thing to know is that you are paying to move the vehicle, so the carrier's insurance covers the car itself. Keep anything you would hate to lose with you.

What prep does the car need?

Wash it, then photograph all four sides and the odometer, and leave about a quarter tank. Remove a roof box or bike rack, and tell the driver about any alarm or starting quirk.

Who has to meet the driver?

An adult at each end, to release the car and sign the condition report. Name anyone you trust for it and pass us their number when you book.

How soon do I register in Arizona?

As soon as you become an Arizona resident, according to ADOT. Bring the title and registration from your previous state to an MVD office or an authorized third-party provider.

Do I need an emissions test in Arizona?

Only in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas, including if you live outside them and commute in. Vehicles five years old or less, models from 1966 or older and electric vehicles are exempt.

What if I live in Flagstaff or Yuma?

Then no emissions test applies. The program covers the two metro areas only, so most of the state by area is outside it.

What if I keep my car registered in another state?

Winter residents often do, and that is fine. The requirement follows residency rather than where the car is parked, so a seasonal visitor keeps their home-state plates.

Does the summer heat affect shipping?

Not the trip. July and August deliveries are often set for early morning or evening, and it is worth checking tire pressure and the battery once the car has settled into Valley heat.

How does payment work?

You leave a deposit when booking and settle the balance with the driver on delivery, by cashier's check, money order or cash. A card can also cover it all up front.

What if my dates change?

Cancel any time before we assign a carrier and your deposit comes back to you. Once we assign one and send you the driver's details, that money is spoken for. It is not gone, though. You can push the move back and use it on a later shipment.

What if the car will not start?

Yes. A winch brings it aboard, putting $200 or more on the running price, and noting it at quote time books the right equipment.

Can I track the truck?

Yes. Call or text the driver on the number we send, follow the email updates, and use GPS tracking wherever the carrier's truck offers it.

Ship against the season and pay less

Arizona is one of the biggest seasonal markets in the country, and the calendar moves this state's prices more than almost anywhere else.

October and November fill up inbound

Winter residents arrive through the fall, so southbound and westbound trucks into the Valley book early. Give three to four weeks of notice in those two months and the price stays comfortable.

March and April fill up outbound

The flow reverses in spring. Cars head north and east, and trucks arriving in Arizona look for loads going out, which often makes late spring a good time to ship into the state.

  • Late spring and summer are the easiest months to book in either direction.
  • Late August tightens up with ASU, the University of Arizona and NAU all moving in.
  • Three or four possible pickup days beat one fixed morning on every route in the tables above.

Delivery across Arizona

Most of Arizona suits a nine-car trailer. The Valley is a grid of wide arterials, Tucson is laid out much the same, and the truck normally pulls up at the address.

Straight to the door

Most of the Valley and most of Tucson: Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Avondale, Buckeye, Queen Creek, Maricopa, Casa Grande, Marana and Oro Valley.

Met a few minutes away

Sun City, Sun City West, Sun Lakes and gated communities that limit commercial vehicles, plus Old Town Scottsdale, downtown Tempe by ASU and the denser downtown Phoenix blocks. A nearby lot does the job in about ten minutes.

The high country takes a little more planning. Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott, Payson and Show Low sit up climbing two-lane roads, and Sedona adds tight switchbacks, so the driver may load from a flatter spot nearby. Yuma, Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City and Kingman are simple by comparison, sitting on I-8, I-40 and the Colorado River corridor.

Places we deliver to include Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Buckeye, Queen Creek, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Anthem, Sun City, Casa Grande, Maricopa, Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana, Sierra Vista, Yuma, Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, Kingman, Prescott, Flagstaff, Sedona, Payson and Show Low. Mesa has its own page for Mesa car shipping.

Registering your car in Arizona

Arizona keeps the list short, and where you live decides whether the emissions step applies at all.

  • Register as soon as you become an Arizona resident, according to ADOT. Take the title and registration from your previous state to an MVD office or an authorized third-party provider.
  • Emissions testing applies in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas, including for people who live outside them but commute in.
  • Vehicles five years old or less are exempt, along with models from 1966 or older and electric vehicles.
  • Live in Flagstaff, Yuma, Prescott or anywhere outside those two metro areas and no emissions test applies.

Winter residents who keep the car registered in their home state skip all of it. The requirement follows residency, not where the car spends the season.

A car arriving in the desert

Check the tires first

A long temperature change moves the pressures. Let the car sit a day, then set them to the door-jamb figure.

Test the battery

Few climates are harder on a battery than Valley heat. Get it tested before your first summer here.

Buy a sunshade

Arizona sun works on dashboards and trim quickly. A windshield shade is the cheapest thing you will buy all year.

Open, enclosed or expedited in Arizona

Every figure above assumes open transport, the choice of nearly every car we move here. Go enclosed for a classic, a collector car, an exotic or fresh paint, and to keep desert grit and sun off a finish on a long run. Allow roughly 80 percent on top.

If the date is set in stone, expedited narrows the pickup window to three days, which is worth most in the October and November rush. Both trailer types are laid out in our open and enclosed guide.

Cars that do not start are fine here. They load by winch, which puts $200 or more on the running price, and a word at quote time reserves the right truck.

The carrier behind your Arizona shipment

One carrier from our vetted network of over 16,000 handles the whole run. Nothing starts without current FMCSA authority and insurance on file. After that we weigh up the trailer, how well the driver knows the southwestern corridors, and what their last few runs looked like.

That carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance covers the car from pickup through delivery, with the certificate emailed to you. Our own record is open to anyone at USDOT 2887232, MC 969368 on SAFER.
