Read these as estimates rather than fixed prices. Fuel is the single largest cost in hauling a car and it tracks the market, so the rows get reviewed against it. Road days start when your pickup window closes. Enclosed adds roughly 80 percent. A car that will not start needs a winch truck, which adds $200 or more. See how our national bands work.

Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Apache Junction, Queen Creek and Scottsdale all price with Mesa, and so does Phoenix. Orlando and Tampa sit a little closer than Miami and come in at the lower end of the Florida figure. Every one of these rows also appears on our Arizona car shipping page, so the two agree.

Mesa is bigger than you think, and it pays a smaller city's price

This is the part of the Mesa quote worth understanding, because it works in your favor.

Mesa had 504,258 residents at the 2020 census. That makes it the third largest city in Arizona and the 38th largest in the United States, ahead of Miami, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Cleveland and St. Louis. It is also the largest city in the country that is not a county seat, which is a fair clue to how quietly it grew.

What a half-million city usually pays

A standalone city of that size, sitting on its own, prices above the nearest big metro. A driver has to route in specially, and there is less waiting to go back out. That is why Spokane, Buffalo and Reno all carry a premium.

What Mesa actually pays

Phoenix metro rates, to the dollar. Mesa to Los Angeles is $600 to $800, the same as Phoenix to Los Angeles, on a run that is 20 miles longer. The truck is already in the valley.

The reason is simple. Mesa is 20 miles east of downtown Phoenix and sits inside the same freight market, reached by the same two interstates. A carrier loading in the valley fills a nine-car trailer across Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe without ever leaving the metro. So there is no routing detour to price in, and no reason to charge for one.

Two practical results. First, Mesa is one of the better-value places in the Southwest to ship a car out of. Second, you do not need to give a Phoenix address to get a Phoenix price. Give us the real Mesa address and the quote comes out the same.

Mesa Car Shipping Questions

The questions Mesa customers really ask, answered with this city's own numbers.

How much does it cost to ship a car to or from Mesa, Arizona?

$450 to $2,000 for an operable mid-size car on an open trailer, and the figure depends almost entirely on distance. Mesa to Tucson is $450 to $600. Mesa to Los Angeles is $600 to $800. Mesa to Chicago is $1,400 to $1,650, and Mesa to Miami, the longest lane we publish here, is $1,700 to $2,000.

How long does Mesa car shipping take?

From 1 day within Arizona to 7 days for a coast-to-coast run. Mesa to Los Angeles or Las Vegas is 1 to 2 days, Mesa to Dallas is 3 to 4, Mesa to Seattle is 4 to 5, and Mesa to Miami is 6 to 7. Road days start when your pickup window closes.

Does Mesa cost more than Phoenix to ship from?

No, and that is the best thing about shipping from Mesa. Mesa prices exactly with Phoenix in both directions, because the two sit inside one freight market. A city of half a million anywhere else in the country would pay a standalone rate.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Los Angeles?

$600 to $800 on an open trailer over about 395 miles in 1 to 2 days. That covers the whole Los Angeles basin, Orange County, Long Beach and the Inland Empire at the same figure.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Las Vegas?

$550 to $750 on an open trailer over about 320 miles in 1 to 2 days. Henderson and North Las Vegas price the same.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Dallas?

$975 to $1,175 on an open trailer over about 1,065 miles in 3 to 4 days. Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco and Arlington come in at the same figure.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Chicago?

$1,400 to $1,650 on an open trailer over about 1,730 miles in 5 to 6 days. Naperville, Aurora, Schaumburg and the rest of Chicagoland price with it.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Seattle?

$1,350 to $1,600 on an open trailer over about 1,450 miles in 4 to 5 days. Tacoma, Bellevue, Everett and Olympia are the same range, and our Lakewood office handles the Puget Sound end.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Florida?

$1,700 to $2,000 to Miami on an open trailer over about 2,330 miles in 6 to 7 days. Orlando and Tampa sit a little closer and come in at the lower end of that range. Our Kissimmee office coordinates Central Florida deliveries.

What does it cost to ship a car from Mesa to Tucson?

$450 to $600 on an open trailer over about 100 miles in 1 day. It is the shortest lane we publish from Mesa, and at that distance driving it yourself is usually the better call unless you have two cars and one driver.

Do prices work the same in both directions?

Yes. Every range on this page holds whether the car is leaving Mesa or arriving in it. Arizona runs full both ways, with winter visitors coming in and produce and freight going out, so neither direction carries an empty-miles premium.

Is shipping to Mesa cheaper in summer?

Often, yes, and it is worth planning around. June through September is the calm stretch on Arizona lanes, so carriers are easier to find and pickup windows tend to fill faster. October to December and March to May are the busy months.

When is the busiest time to ship a car to Mesa?

October through December, when winter visitors arrive. The reverse rush runs March through May as they head home. Book two to three weeks ahead in either of those windows and scheduling stays comfortable.

Do you help snowbirds ship cars to Mesa each season?

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do here. Many customers run the same two legs every year, south in the fall and north in the spring. Tell us you are a returning seasonal customer and we will work from the route we ran last time.

Is it cheaper to ship two cars at once?

Usually, yes. Two cars going to the same address share the trip and we quote the pair together rather than doubling one price. For a household moving to Mesa with two vehicles and one driver, it is normally the cheapest way to get both there.

How long do I have to register my car in Arizona?

Arizona does not publish a fixed number of days the way Florida and Texas do. The requirement is that the vehicle be titled and registered before you drive it on Arizona roads. So the practical answer is to book your MVD visit for the week the car lands.

What if my title has not arrived yet?

Arizona has a neat answer for this that few people know about: a 90-day resident registration, which costs $15 and lets you drive the car legally while you gather the rest of the paperwork. It is available at any MVD office or authorized third party provider.

Do I need Arizona insurance before I can register?

Yes. Arizona requires liability coverage from a company authorized to do business in Arizona, so an out-of-state policy will not satisfy it. Line up the Arizona policy while the car is still on the truck and the MVD visit becomes a single trip.

Does Mesa require an emissions test?

Mesa sits inside the Phoenix testing area, so in most cases yes. Vehicles five years old or newer are exempt, and so are 1966 and earlier model years and electric vehicles. If your car falls outside those, plan on one test before you register.

Where do I get the emissions test done?

At any state emissions station in the Phoenix area, and there are several across the East Valley. Take the test before your MVD appointment rather than after, since the registration cannot be issued without the passing result.

What is the difference between open and enclosed transport?

Open is the standard trailer and it carries almost every car we move, including all the prices on this page. Enclosed puts the car inside a covered trailer and costs about 80 percent more. It is the right call for a collector car, an exotic, a low car or fresh paint.

Is enclosed worth it on an Arizona route?

It depends on the car rather than the road. There is no road salt anywhere on the routes into Mesa, which removes the usual winter argument for enclosed. What does apply is desert grit on the long approaches. For a daily driver a wash covers it, and for a valuable finish enclosed earns its money.

Can you ship a classic or collector car to Mesa?

Yes, and the Phoenix area gives us plenty of practice at it. Enclosed transport, a low-clearance ramp where the car needs one, and a driver used to handling vehicles that do not sit at normal ride height. Tell us the ground clearance at quote time.

Can you ship a car that will not start?

Yes. A non-running car loads on a winch, which adds $200 or more to the running price. Let us know at quote time so the right truck is assigned from the start, and the whole thing goes smoothly.

What is your pickup window?

6 days standard, counted from the first date you give us. Expedited narrows it to 3 days. Both windows open on your earliest available date rather than the day you book.

Is expedited worth paying for?

It is when a date is firm. On a Mesa to Los Angeles run the drive is one day, so the collection window is most of your timeline and tightening it from 6 days to 3 genuinely changes the schedule. On a coast-to-coast run it matters less.

Will my price change after I book?

No. That is our Smart Price Promise: the price we quote is the price you pay, as long as the vehicle, the route, the condition and the shipping details stay the same. If something material changes we reprice openly and tell you why.

What is included in the price?

Door to door pickup and delivery, one carrier for the whole trip, the driver's Carrier Cargo Insurance, a written condition report at both ends, and the driver's direct number. No fuel surcharge and no fees added later.

Can the truck reach my street in Mesa?

Usually yes, and Mesa is one of the easier cities in the country for this. The city is laid out on a wide one-mile grid with generous arterial roads, so a 75-foot carrier has room to work. Where a gated community or a narrow cul-de-sac gets in the way, the driver meets you at a nearby lot.

One thing to double check on your Mesa address

Mesa uses its own street numbering system, separate from the one Phoenix and most of the rest of the metro use. Include the city name and the ZIP code when you send us the address, and the driver arrives at the right block first time.

How does pickup work at a Mesa winter resort or RV community?

Smoothly, and usually faster than a residential street. Those communities have large paved lots and staff used to car carriers arriving, so we arrange the spot with the office in advance. Give us the community name when you book.

How does the summer heat affect shipping?

It changes the loading hour, not the drive. Phoenix-area summer afternoons average above 105 degrees, so drivers load and unload early in the morning where they can. Your car travels the same way it would in March.

Should I do anything about the heat before pickup?

Two small things help. Check the tire pressures, since heat changes them and the car has to roll on and off the trailer. And take out anything that can soften or melt, such as sunglasses, electronics and aerosol cans.

Do I need to be there for pickup and delivery?

Someone does, and it can be anyone you name. That person walks the car with the driver, signs the condition report and keeps a copy. At the far end the same report is used to check the car before signing for it.

How do I prepare the car?

Wash it so the condition report is accurate, photograph it from every angle, leave about a quarter tank of fuel, turn off the alarm, fold the mirrors and take off any toll transponder. Check the tire pressures too.

Can I leave belongings in the car?

Usually yes, within reason. Keep it to personal effects in the trunk or back seat, under about 100 pounds, below the window line and clear of the driver's way. Tell us what is in there so the weight is accounted for, and leave out anything valuable or irreplaceable.

Do you ship trucks, SUVs and EVs to Mesa?

Yes to all three. A full-size pickup or large SUV takes more deck space and adds roughly $100 to $250 depending on the distance. Electric vehicles ride on the same open trailers, and we ask for the charge level and whether the car has a transport mode.

Do you ship motorcycles and ATVs?

Yes. Motorcycles ship on the same network, secured on their own cradles, and Arizona is a busy market for them. Send the make and model and we will quote it with the right equipment.

Do you offer a military discount?

Yes. Luke Air Force Base sits at the west side of the Phoenix metro and Davis-Monthan is in Tucson, so this is a regular lane for us. We handle gate and base handovers, and orders-based timing where the report date is the fixed point.

Do you serve the rest of the East Valley?

Yes, at the same prices. Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Apache Junction, Queen Creek and Scottsdale all price with Mesa, and so does Phoenix itself. It is one market for shipping purposes.

Who actually moves my car?

One vetted carrier from our network of more than 16,000, for the whole distance. Active FMCSA authority and a live insurance filing come first, and nothing moves without both. After that we look at the trailer and how recent deliveries went.

What insurance covers my car in transit?

The carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance covers the vehicle from pickup to delivery. Ask and we will send you the certificate before the truck arrives.

Where can I check your licensing?

Smart Auto Move Inc holds USDOT 2887232 and MC 969368, and the record is public on the FMCSA SAFER system. We are also BBB accredited with an A plus rating going back to 2016.

Are these prices fixed?

They are honest estimates, reviewed against the market. Fuel is the largest single cost in hauling a car and it moves, so these rows get reviewed against it. The live number for your car and your dates comes from the quote form or a phone call.

Do you sell my information?

No. Information you share with Smart Auto Move for the purpose of receiving a quote is used for that purpose only. We do not sell your information and we do not chase you with outbound sales calls. You are welcome to call us whenever you like.

How do I get a firm price for Mesa?

Send the Mesa pickup address or the delivery address, the year, make and model, whether the car runs, and your earliest available date. That is everything we need to give you a number you can book on.

The Mesa shipping calendar, and how to use it

Very few cities have a season as clear as this one, and knowing it is worth real money on a booking.

Mesa is one of the great winter destinations in the country. Tens of thousands of seasonal residents arrive in the fall and head home in the spring, and a lot of them bring a car down rather than drive it. That gives Arizona lanes a rhythm you can plan around.

The busy months

October to December heading into Mesa, and March to May heading back out. Carriers on these lanes fill up first. Book two to three weeks ahead in either window and scheduling stays comfortable.

The calm months

June to September. Fewer bookings competing for the same trailers, so pickup windows are easier to hit and carriers are quicker to assign. This is the easiest stretch of the year to ship into or out of Mesa.

There is a real advantage hiding in that pattern. Because Arizona fills in one direction and empties in the other, the lanes into and out of the state carry traffic both ways across the whole year. Winter visitors come in while produce, freight and equipment go out. That two-way flow is why the same range holds whichever direction your car is going, which is not true on every route we run.

If you make the same trip every year, tell us. Plenty of our Mesa customers run two legs a season, and we will start from the route and the driver that worked last time rather than from a blank form.

Getting the car registered once it lands

Arizona is more relaxed than most states here, with one step that catches people and one that is easier than expected.

Arizona publishes no day count, so plan for the week the car arrives

Florida gives new residents 10 days and Texas gives 30. Arizona sets no fixed number. The requirement is that the vehicle be titled and registered before you drive it on Arizona roads, so the sensible plan is an MVD appointment the week of delivery.

Get the Arizona insurance policy first

Arizona requires liability coverage from a company authorized to do business in Arizona, so an out-of-state policy will not do it. Arrange the Arizona policy while the car is still on the truck and the MVD visit becomes one trip instead of two.

Mesa is inside the emissions area, so budget for one test

Testing is required across the Phoenix metro. Vehicles five years old or newer are exempt, along with 1966 and earlier models and electric vehicles. Take the test before your MVD appointment, since the registration cannot be issued without the passing result.

If the title is still in transit, there is a $15 answer

Arizona offers a 90-day resident registration for people who do not yet have complete documentation. It costs $15, it lets you drive the car legally while the paperwork catches up, and it is available at any MVD office or authorized third party provider. Very few people know it exists.

That last one is genuinely useful if your title is held by a lender in another state, which is the most common reason a new arrival gets stuck. The car can be on the road the same week it arrives while the title makes its way over.

Mesa is an easy city for a car carrier, with one thing to watch

On most city pages this section explains why a 75-foot trailer cannot reach your street. Mesa is the happy exception.

The city is laid out on a wide one-mile grid, with generous arterial roads and long straight runs between them. US 60, the Superstition Freeway, cuts across the middle between Phoenix and Apache Junction, and Loops 101 and 202 wrap the edges. A full-length carrier has room to turn, room to stop and room to load, which is not something we can say about most of the cities on this site.

The winter communities are easier still. Large paved lots, wide entrances and staff who see car carriers arrive every fall. Give us the community name when you book and we will set the spot with the office in advance, which usually makes a resort pickup faster than a residential one.

Include the ZIP code

Mesa runs its own street numbering system, separate from the one Phoenix and most of the metro use. A numbered street or a Main Street address can read two ways. City name plus ZIP and the driver lands on the right block first time.

Name the gate

Gated neighborhoods and the newer Gilbert and Queen Creek loops have turns a long trailer cannot make. Tell us at quote time and the driver picks a wide lot nearby, at no extra cost.

Mention covered parking

Underground and covered garages have height limits a carrier cannot clear. The car comes up to street level, or we send equipment that suits. Named at booking, it is a non-issue.

Shipping in a Mesa summer

The heat changes the loading hour rather than the journey, and it is handled the same way every year.

A July afternoon in the valley averages above 105 degrees and the record stands at 121. Drivers work around that by loading and unloading early in the morning where the schedule allows, which is why a summer pickup is often booked for seven in the morning rather than the middle of the day. The drive itself runs exactly as it would in March.

Two small things on your side help. Check the tire pressures, because heat moves them and the car has to roll on and off the trailer under its own weight. And take out anything that can soften or melt: sunglasses, electronics, aerosol cans and anything left in a door pocket.

Across the desert stretches west and east of the valley, drivers often run the long legs overnight in July and August and rest through the afternoon. Your car keeps moving either way, and it is the reason a late July estimate looks the same as an October one.

Who ships cars to and from Mesa

Seasonal residents

The biggest group by some margin. A car comes south in the fall and north in the spring, often the same two legs every year for the same household.

Retirement and downsizing moves

Mesa draws people out of colder states permanently as well as seasonally. Two-car households usually ship both and fly, which is the cheapest way to do it.

Job relocations

Aerospace, semiconductors, healthcare and construction move staff into the East Valley steadily. A second vehicle ships rather than making the drive.

Military orders

Luke Air Force Base sits at the west side of the metro and Davis-Monthan is in Tucson. We handle gate handovers and orders-based timing where the report date is fixed.

Collector cars

The Phoenix area is one of the busiest classic and auction markets in the country. Enclosed transport, low-clearance ramps and drivers used to handling them.

Students

Arizona State sits next door in Tempe and prices with Mesa. A car shipped before the semester beats two days of driving before classes start.

How Mesa auto transport works

Get your price

Send the Mesa address with its ZIP, the other end of the trip, the vehicle and your earliest date.

Book the move

A deposit opens your six day pickup window on the first date you gave us.

We assign a carrier

You get the driver's name and direct number, and the insurance certificate if you want it.

Loading in Mesa

Often early morning in summer. Walk the car with the driver, sign the condition report, watch it load.

On the road

One day to Tucson, up to seven to Florida, with calls, texts and email along the way.

Delivery

Check the car against the pickup report, settle the balance, take the keys.

Open, enclosed or expedited from Mesa

Open transport carries almost every car we move in and out of Mesa, and every price on this page is an open price. Enclosed puts the car inside a covered trailer and costs about 80 percent more. It is the right choice for a collector car, an exotic, a low car or a fresh repaint.

Here is the honest version for this city. No route into Mesa crosses a salted road, so the usual winter argument for enclosed does not apply at all. What does apply is desert grit on the long approaches from California and Texas. For a daily driver, a wash at the far end covers it. For a valuable finish, enclosed is money well spent, and the Phoenix auction market means our carriers get plenty of practice with it.

Expedited narrows the pickup window from six days to three. The drive does not shorten, since drivers work to federal hours-of-service limits. On a short lane it matters a great deal: Mesa to Los Angeles is a one-day drive, so the collection window is most of your timeline. The open and enclosed guide covers the trailer choice and the standard versus expedited guide covers the timing one.

A car that will not start ships perfectly well. It loads on a winch, which adds $200 or more to the running price, and telling us at quote time means the right truck is assigned from the start.

The carrier behind your shipment

One carrier from our vetted network of over 16,000 runs the whole distance, with no transfer along the way and no night in a storage yard. Active FMCSA authority and a live insurance filing come first and nothing moves without both. After that comes the trailer, how often that driver runs the southwest lanes, and how their recent deliveries went.

That carrier's Carrier Cargo Insurance covers your vehicle from pickup to delivery, and the certificate is yours on request. Our own record is public on SAFER at USDOT 2887232, MC 969368.
